Coup d'oeil marks the inaugural exhibition of SPLITART PROJECTS. The curator's perspective focuses on both the quality of the artistic work and the conditions that will highlight and distinguish it from the multitude of other creative productions. Coup d'oeil is a French term that roughly corresponds to glimpse or glance in English and Blick in German. Coup d'oeil is a gift from God that cannot be attained, but can be achieved through results. Ultimately, professional experience can often cloud one’s perspective, when clarity is crucial for keeping a “clear eye”. To rise above the mere facts and act based on a careful evaluation of both advantages and disadvantages. For the curator and artist, coup d'oeil is the ability to view things with simplicity and to immerse themselves with the creative process. This is the cornerstone of success. Only when the mind functions in this inclusive manner can it be free to master events rather than be controlled by them…

23 Colors

​

Between minimalism, conceptual art and arte povera, the ''23 Colors'' exhibition explores works by Sol LeWitt (1928–2007) and Paolo Incarnato (1990). A mix of colors that will occupy the space of Keramikos 23 from 09.09.2024 to commemorate the American artist born on the same date. The two different artists find a common approach in geometric and free shapes using different surfaces.

''Sette Stelle'' by LeWitt is a series of lithographs produced in 1984 in which the artist expresses: ''...the search for an ideal stage, in which the visual event is the exact result of a conceptual process, allows the 'extreme purification of the idea or concept which thus presents itself for what it is, rational and objective entities, which do not allow subjective and empathic inputs, typical of the ''aesthetic...'' intervention Germano Celant ''L'Orchestra LeWitt' '.

''Totem'' by Incarnato addresses a parallel between tribal art and contemporary realities, using waste tires and coloring the ''bas-reliefs'' with bright colors as if they were, ironically, patron saints of social categories to which we are tied for life in modern consumer society.

Theoretically we have learned a lot about the daily habits and mythology of ancient civilizations by simply studying their ornaments on everyday objects such as vases or containers. What will they learn in the future of our habits and our myths from our containers?

I don’t care who you are

 

Over the past 25 years, Athens has evolved from an almost exclusively Greek city to a multicultural metropolis. At first, people relocating from the North East, later from the Middle East and Central Asia as economic migrants and refugees on their way to the west, were left stranded in a city with no previous experience of permanently hosting non-native speakers. Only recently has Athens been enriched by an unprecedented wave of new inflows permanent of residents from the West, as well as wealthy visitors from the East and Asia. The arrival of these new residents and the countless tourists that have flooded Athens in recent years has definitively changed the face of the city. The distinction between the acceptable foreigners and undesirables in terms of "Greek hospitality" has diminished. Consequently, we seem to have gradually disregarded the traditional expression "do you know who I am?". 9 visual artists, some "foreign" and others less "foreign" comment on the new reality.

The Region of Attica  co-organizes with the Pedion -Field for the Art and the Culture N.P.C.S, with the collaboration of the “Shedia” street paper and under the auspices of AICA Hellas the exhibition Pedion, meeting place at Pedion Areos Park in Athens and at “shedia home” in Athens.

​

The exhibition Pedion is proposed as a place of communication and contemplation, which aims to make visible, through a rich and varied artistic expression, aspects and pursuits of the everyday life in crisis, an individual experience that is raised to a collective consciousness. It could be defined as the study of the dialectical relationship between the private and the collective, between art and society, between the spectator and the work of art, between people.

 

The exhibition is an attempt, a field-place of coexistence and exchange of different people’s stories through the prism of art. Beyond the park, the exhibition continues at the site of the “Shedia” street paper, the “shedia home” at Kolokotronis Street in the center of the city, as one of the main goals of the paper is to raise awareness and mobilize our citizens on critical issues of homelessness, poverty and social exclusion.

 

The exhibition seeks to record the history of the present, to highlight once again the importance of culture and of the people of the art community to society, to emphasize how art plays a key role in the endless interpretive process of reality and the world in general.

HOME -004-

 

Paolo Incarnato’s installation Home (2018) at the Isaiah Mansion (House) builtin 1923 on Patision Street, which testifies to the glamor of another era, refers to the liquidity and the subversion of our reality. The artist covers the floor, the walls and the ceiling of the room of a former luxury apartment with recycled cardboards from industrial boxes, thus giving a new form to the space. His new risky “dwelling” specifically addresses the issue of global housing shortage, which has emerged from climate change, the continuous increase of poverty and socio-political instability that often lead to violent population displacements. The visitor is invited to “experience” indirectly the environment, the reality and the daily life of these vulnerable social groups, whic hmost of the time, unfortunately, are just considered a number and a burden for society.

"Alone" Is an digital exhibition in the context of Trento Art Festival, an international exhibition in which contemporary art converses whith the public and collectors by exploring the new opportunities provided by the network through the platform kunstmatrix.com with the patronage of the municipality of Trento. 

A double solo exhibition by Thalia Kerouli and Paolo Incarnato who a take distance from the fast rhythms of the modern era but without closing their ears to its “Sirens”. As “monks”, they deepen their artistic discourse, having man at the center of their work, but with a purely humanistic approach.

The organization of ART THESSALONIKI INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ART FAIR is implemented by the National Organization of Exhibitions, Conferences and Cultural Events "TIF-HELEXPO SA" with Pantelis Tsatsis, Artistic Director, who inspired and created the project.

 

For the 2nd time this year, Art-Thessaloniki International Contemporary Art Fair and the Cultural Society of Entrepreneurs of Northern Greece (PEEVE), organized the MATAROA AWARDS, through an open invitation process and portfolio submission, for young artists up to 33 years old.

The call for interest closed with high quality proposals from a total of 120 participants, which were evaluated by the five-member committee and with particular difficulty were selected the 10 who will exhibit at individual stands at the 5th Art-Thessaloniki Fair.

Epic -003-

The art of the Italian Paolo Incarnato brings to the surface ancient, contemporary and future issues and questions. His latest series Epic (2018-21) – presented in context to Back to Athens 8 International Arts Festival at the Isaiah House, built in 1923 on Patision Street, which reveals the prestige of a past era and until today houses the Stavrakos Film School – explores with a doseof sarcasm the present and the future while reactivating memory.

In particular, the sculptures consist of recyclable cans of contemporary products and other metal objects such as antennas and gas cylinders. Scenes, reminiscent of those of everyday life and myth, which decorate the Ancient Greek vases and amphorae, are painted on the surfaces. The images he creates are contemporary, surrounded by an Ancient Greek atmosphere, since we discover ancient Greeks in a current situation, such as eating popcorn and holding a remote control, doing a coronavirus self-test and working in front of their laptops. He represents ‘epic” scenes of the present on everyday industrial items that could become points of reference and objects of study for the future archaeologist and historian.

Ten years after his first contact with the Gallery of Contemporary Balkan Art in Kontia, Lemnos, Paolo Incarnato presents his retrospective exhibition "GOLD" curated by Dimitris Lusko and texts by Stratis Pantazis and Edoardo Monti, with the support of O.Ε.Π.Α. Municipality of Lemnos and the Cultural Association of Kontiatina of Lemnos, which will last from June 19, until August 16, 2021.

Paolo Incarnato, who has chosen to live on the island of Lemnos for the last few years, will exhibit to the public the Gallery of Contemporary Balkan Art works of the last five years, his sculptures and installations are an amalgam of humble and recyclable materials that always touch on contemporary socio-political issues. man in focus. Continuing his passion to produce works full of emotion, with respect to the value and power of the material, Incarnato will promote works from the Epic, Totem, Communication, Pantheon, History, Hope, Sacred series and the GOLD site-specific installation.

After the first presentation at the Palazzo Monti in Brescia, Italy in 2019, this year it is the turn of the Kontias Gallery of Contemporary Balkan Art to host the GOLD installation. The windows of the building are covered by the golden color of the isothermal emergency blankets used in rescue missions, creating huge gold panels. Our work calls for reflection on how to manage migration worldwide, at a time when this crisis is affecting many countries.

This year's Back to Athens 2020 under the title " μetaΑθήνα / pÏŒστΑθενς" will present 11 curatorial
exhibitions and individual artistic proposals with the participation of 100 artists and curators from Greece and abroad. It will be a unique post-lockdown meeting, during which Greek and International artists will reconnect in physical presence, in the face and the circumstances of a new reality.

Back to Athens was first introduced at the beginning of the crisis in 2012, and to this day unfolds the concerns and expectations of artists and the public that take place within the Athenian landscape. The aim of the event is to study and document the new reality of our times as it is given through the curatorial concepts and the artwork; a source that will most likely provide conclusions for the near future.

From July 1 to July 4, Back to Athens 2020 will take place in the monumental 1950s building of 48-50 Aiolou street, within its distinctive rooms that once served as small offices and workshops for local businesses. Artists, members of the art community and art lovers will meet again this year, taking in consideration protective health measures and obligations commanded by the present conditions.

The exhibition entitled "-001-" is the first retrospective of the Neapolitan artist who will exhibit six units among his most expressive works at mueum PAN (Palazzo delle Arti of Naples).

 

The exhibition realized in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism of Naples will exhibit the works; History, Sacred, Pantheon, Hungry, Comunication, Memories which are just some of the artist's iconic works that will be presented to the public from 19 to 29 June 2019 at PAN.

Paolo Incarnato's site-specific temporary installation for Palazzo Monti, uses emergency blankets, stretched on custom made wood frames, to fill each of the 15 windows on the Palazzo’s facade. The project invites us to reflect on how immigration is handled all over the world, at times where this crisis is affecting many countries. These blankets, handed out to desperate migrants left with nothing but their own lives, are paradoxically shiny and golden, a reminder that life itself is worth more than our own weight in gold.

10 Artists in the Light of Caravaggio

 

BPRarts Cultural Management in collaboration with the Municipality of Larnaka and the support of the Ministry of Education and Culture is presenting the exhibition ‘10 Artists in the Light of Caravaggio’ at the Larnaka Municipal Gallery.

​

Contemporary artists from Cyprus, Greece and Italy, who have either been inspired by his art in a conscious or unconscious level or their work shares the approach and techniques of the Italian artist, have been invited. The show is not just a return to Caravaggio’s art, neither a dedication and devotion to history, but rather a reflection of the contemporary gaze of the artist today, through the prism of tradition and history.

VI Thessaloniki biennale of Contemporary Art

Imagined Homes

​

Home, as an imagined construct, constitutes the thematic core of the 6th Thessaloniki Biennale. The terms “hearth” (hestía) and “home”, here refer to notions not only of residence, but also of community and homeland, a place where one feels safe and accepted, has one's roots, and develops the core of one's social and family relationships. Today, however, for much of the world the above notions are uncertain, with thousands of people obliged to leave their homelands for other, hopefully safer, places. These notions therefore exist only within the imaginary, as constructs, projections and expectations.

Metamorphosis​

​

This community of people was eventually worthy to embrace the contemporary work of the young Italian sculptor Paolo Incarnato. A work that, in the eyes of viewers, looks like a birth of the place itself, a stone related to the already existing, but at the same time separate with the iron ow, connects the old with the new. His pulsating motion unites two different worlds in the form of a fish, with the human element dominating, however, well hidden in the supposed beats of the heart forming the iron by joining the two stones.
